Steinn Steinarr was a peculiar man, and it seemed to many who knew him that his personality was remarkably contradictory. He did not begin to write seriously until he was well into his twenties, wrote for twelve or fourteen years, and then stopped. He is one of the leading Icelandic poets of the twentieth century.
