Tuned strings. By composer and conductor Pétur Sigurðsson and the Skagrizki Farmers' Choir. Compiled by Kristmundur Bjarnason.
In Stillltur strengjim, Kristmundur Bjarnason discusses the singing life of the Skagfir people in the past and one of the most significant aspects of their little-explored history, which is the work of the Skagfirzka bændkórsins (Skagfir Farmers' Choir) in the years 1917-1927. First and foremost, the work is the biography of the conductor Pétur Sigurðsson, a composer from Geirmundarstöðir. Pétur was endowed with extraordinary talents, both a self-taught musical genius and a diligent fighter for the rights of working people. He died at a ripe old age but accomplished much in his short life, in addition to leaving behind him well-known songs that will always live with the nation, such as Erla, Vor and Ætti ég hárpu.
