A boy, in Iceland and abroad. Ragnar Ásgeirsson tells the story.
Ragnar Ásgeirsson, b. 6 November 1895 in Kóranes in Mýrum, d. 1 January 1973 in Reykjavík, was an Icelandic horticultural consultant and writer. He was known for his work as a horticultural consultant for the Icelandic Agricultural Society and for collecting folk lore and legends, and books were published by him on this subject. In addition, he worked on the preparation and establishment of museums around the country.
Ragnar's parents were Ásgeir Eyþórsson, a merchant in Mýri and Straumfjörður, later an accountant in Reykjavík, and Björg Matthíasdóttir from Holti in Reykjavík. In 1901, Ragnar moved with his parents to Reykjavík and grew up there, but also spent a long time in Knarrarnes with his cousins, and in Vík in Mýrdal with his paternal aunt. When the family moved to Reykjavík, they lived in the house Holti on Skólavörðustígur. At that time, Einar Helgason, a gardener, ran the Búnaðarfélagið's nursery on Laufásvegur, and Ragnar Ásgeirsson got a summer job there for several years before being discharged. At the nursery, he became acquainted with a variety of crops, which sparked an interest in him that was to lay the foundation for a long life of work in this field.
