Strings. Poem by Konráð Vilhjálmsson.
Konráð Vilhjálmsson was born at Sílalækur in Aðaldalur in Suður-Þingeyjarsýsla in July 1885. His father Vilhjálm was the son of farmer Jónas Guðmundsson at Sílalækur and his wife Guðrún Jónsdóttir from Stórutunga in Bárðardalur. Konráð's mother was Kristín Jakobína Kristjánsdóttir Steinsson, half-sister of Þorgrímur in Nes. Her father Kristján must have been from Eyjafjörður, related to the Hvassafellsætt.
At the age of seven, Konráð moved with his parents to Hafralækur in the same village, where his parents lived until the end of their lives. Konráð remained at Hafralækur until 1930, when he moved to Akureyri.
Early on, Konráð showed great and versatile talents and managed to enter the Secondary School in Akureyri and completed his secondary school diploma in the spring of 1904. He studied at the Teachers' College in Reykjavík in 1908 and after that taught at the Children's School in Reykjavík. But his mind was set on returning home to Aðaldalur, to work in teaching, farming and social work. He started farming at Hafralækur with his wife Þórhölla Jónsdóttir from Brekknakot and, along with farming, taught in his village.
He gained knowledge on a wide variety of subjects and was a sought-after speaker at gatherings throughout the North. He was often asked to compose eulogies and eulogies, and he often spoke and recited reflections and poems at funerals.
Strings of Strings is Konráður Vilhjálmsson's only book of poetry.
