Summer breeze. Poem by Bragi Sigurjónsson.
Bragi Sigurjónsson (1910 - 1995) was born in Einarsstaðir and raised in Litlulaugar in Reykjadalur, but lived in Akureyri for most of his life. There he worked as a poet, writer, journalist and was an active politician.
During his lifetime, Bragi's poetry was overshadowed by his extensive public involvement. He was for a long time the banker of Útvegsbankinn in Akureyri and a member of the town council there, later a member of the Althingi and most recently a minister for the Icelandic People's Party.
When the waves that the politics of each current moment raise have subsided, poets may first enjoy the truth. Good poetry is not destroyed by moths or rust. Therefore, it is likely that in the future Bragi will be remembered primarily as a poet. He published 11 books of poetry from 1947-95.
