The Sleeping Wheel. A novel by Gyrður Elíasson. Book cover illustration by Elías B. Halldórsson.
The Sleep Bike is Gyrður Elíasson's second novel, and just as The Walking Squirrel was a kind of fantasy, The Sleep Bike is a kind of ghost story. A young man moves with a rickety suitcase and a typewriter into an old summer house in a small village. Soon strange events begin to happen, he has strange dreams, sees sea monsters and is repeatedly considered a ghost, a revenant, or even related to old ghosts. The sleep bike itself is a motorcycle that he travels around the area on, but sometimes he travels without it, because he has a habit of falling asleep in one place and waking up in another. It turns out that not everything is as it seems.
