Sins of the Gods. First edition. A sermon delivered by Jochum M. Eggertsson in Húsavík Church in February 1926.
This is a complex speech. Shortly after its delivery, the speaker was summoned to the police court of Þingeyjarsýsla and a complaint was read to him, written by the parish priest of Tjörnesþing. In addition, a letter from missionary Arthur Cook was also read to the speaker. The missionary's speech was based on the stories of a village herder in Húsavík who in turn had told of his wife, not a commoner, who was said to have been possessed by an evil spirit when she had listened to the aforementioned speech in Húsavík church. Jochum says that the missionary is a representative of "a missionary corporation that runs a paper doctor's office along with a storyteller". And so that the entire public can now enjoy the controversial speech, it is published here in print, with the exception of one chapter, the most beautiful.
