In a memoir in Morgunblaðið, Birgir Svan says this about Jón Þorleifsson. "Jón nevertheless wrote about sixty books and published them himself with the support of Sigurjón í Letur. Jón walked the streets and squares of Reykjavík and distributed his books in the manner of young poets. Those of us who knew Jón considered him to be a poet, although he himself always denied the title, but he did receive confirmation that he was not a poet when he was denied entry into the Icelandic Writers' Association. It was not without reason that I was as hurt as he was."
