Under the open sky. Poem by Hólmfríður Jónasdóttir.
This is Hólmfríður's first and only book.
Hólmfríður Jónasdóttir was born at Grundarkot in Blönduhlíð in Akrahreppur and grew up in her parents' house in Skagafjörður. She studied at the Women's School in Blönduós and graduated from there after two winters. Hólmfríður taught children in Skarðshreppur and then at Veðramót in Gönguskörður with farmer Sigurður Guðmundsson, where children from the countryside came to be educated.
Hólmfríður married Guðmundur Jósafatsson, a worker in Sauðárkrókur, in 1928. They started farming in Hlíð in Hjaltadalur but moved from there to Axlarhagi and then to Sauðárkrókur.
Hólmfríður worked extensively on labor issues. She was on the board of the Öldunnar Women's Association in Sauðárkrókur and was chairman for several years. She worked for the Icelandic Workers' Alliance and was a candidate for that party. Hólmfríður was chairman of the Women's Association in Sauðárkrókur for many years. Undir berum himni is Hólmfríður's only book, but she has also had poems published in newspapers and magazines. Hólmfríður died in 1995.
