The author, Sæmundur Kristjánsson, was born in Hellissandur but grew up mostly in Rif. He worked for a decade as a harbor guard in Rifshöfn and later as a foreman for the municipality for many years. In the 1980s, Sæmundur began to guide tourists around the Snæfellsnes mountain range and the entire area under the glacier, and in 2006 he completed his regional guide training. The Snæfellsbær Cultural Committee named Sæmundur Snæfellsbæring of the Year 2016 for his contribution to promoting the history and nature of Snæfellsnes. There is a special chapter on the nature under the glacier by Daníel Bergmann. Like Sæmundur, Daníel is from Snæfellsnes and knows the nature of the area well, not least the birdlife. He is also the author of the vast majority of the photographs in the book.
