Valdimar Briem. Printed picture of Rev. Valdimar Briem. Ideal for framing.
Valdimar Briem (February 1, 1848 – 1930) was the consecrating bishop of Stóra-Núpur in Gnúpverjahreppur.
Valdimar was born in Grund in Eyjafjörður. His father was Ólafur Briem, a farmer and carpenter in Grund, and his mother was Dómhildur Þorsteinsdóttir. He grew up in Hruni with his uncle Jóhann Kristján Briem, who was also the dean of Hruni. Valdimar was granted the parish of Hrepphólas in 1873, but it was merged with the Stóra-Núps parish seven years later. Valdimar then settled there. He was the dean of the Árnes diocese from 1896-1918. He was then an ordained bishop from 1909-1930.
Valdimar was a prolific hymn writer and translator, and there are about 80 hymns by him in the hymnal of the National Church. There are also ten hymns by him in the Faroese hymnal.
Valdimar's Bible poems are in 3 volumes, published in 1896 (From the Old Testament), 1897 (From the New Testament) and 1898 (Psalms of David).
