Sigurður Guðmundsson was born at Syðra-Hóll in Skagaströnd. His parents were Guðmundur Jónsson and his wife, Guðrún Gunnarsdóttir. For his confirmation he went to Heiður in Gönguskörður to Jón Dagsson and Ingunn, his wife. He became a farmer at Heiður in 1821 and was a district governor in Sauðárhrepp for fourteen years. His wife was Helga Magnúsdóttir, a priest at Fagranes. Sigurður was a good farmer and an eloquent financial manager. His most famous work is Varabálkur, a collection of healing poems.
