Bjargey Arnórsdóttir was born in Tindir in Geiradalur on May 16, 1930. Her parents were Arnór Einarsson and Ragnheiður Grímsdóttir, farmers in Tindir.
Bjargey grew up in Tindir, and lived there until she moved to Hofsstaðir with her husband Ragnar. In her last years, they lived with her son Arnór. When they moved from Hofsstaðir, she began working in Reykjavík and elsewhere and mostly lived there in her last years. Bjargey was an exceptionally clever poet and was an active member of the Iðunni Poet Society. She left behind a large collection of poems, occasional poems and humorous poems, as well as more serious poems, difficult poems and festive poems written for various occasions. Three books of poetry by her have been published, Vestfjarðavísur 2007, Brugðið á leik 2009, and Sláturvinnuvísur 2010. Her poems have also appeared in books with selected poems, in newspapers and elsewhere.
