The 2009 FÍ Yearbook describes the topography, nature, wildlife, geology, history and legends of the Vestmannaeyjar Islands. The author of the book, Guðjón Ármann Eyjólfsson, discusses all the islands in the Vestmannaeyjar group, which are variously counted as 15 or 18, but the largest part of the book deals with Heimaey. A detailed chapter discusses the history of the Islands, including the Turkish invasion of 1627. A separate chapter is devoted to the volcanic eruption in the Islands in 1973.
