At the end of the road. Episodes from the story of my family. By Ásmundur Gíslason.
Ásmundur Gíslason was born at Þverá in Dalsmynn in Suður-Þingeyjarsýsla on August 21, 1872. His parents were Gísli Ásmundsson, a farmer there, and his wife Þorbjörg Ásgeirsdóttir. Gísli was the brother of the nationally renowned intellectual Einar í Nes. Reverend Ásmundur graduated from Reykjavíkurskóli in the spring of 1892 and from the seminary in 1894. He was ordained on August 25, 1895 as assistant pastor to Reverend Guðmundur Helgason at Bergstaðir and was granted Bergstaðir the following year. In 1904 he was granted Háls in Fnjóskadalur and he was pastor until June 1, 1936, when he resigned from his pastoral duties and moved to Reykjavík. He was married to Anna Pétursdóttir from Vestdal in Seyðisfjörður, a most excellent woman, but she died in 1936. He was provost in the South Þingeyjar diocese from 1913-1936.
