The Vínland Riddle. By Pál Bergþórsson.
The Vinland Saga is about the landings of Norse people in the Western Hemisphere around the year 1000, mainly by Leif the Lucky, Thorvald Eiriksson and Thorfinn Karlsefni. The author, Páll Bergþórsson, uses the Vinland Sagas, Greenland Saga and Eirik the Red Saga as a basis, traces the Vinland Sagas stage by stage and maps the people's routes and places of residence. The descriptions of the stories are compared with the knowledge that can be obtained in other ways about the navigation techniques of the ancients, local customs, climate, flora and fauna in the Western Hemisphere and the folk customs of the Indians and Inuit.
The introduction states: "Páll has not stopped there in his search for the solution to the Vínland Riddle. He himself set foot on land in connection with his research, explored the localities of the West Coast and found, among other things, wild vines and self-sown wheat or wild rice." The book includes diary excerpts and photographs from his journey.
