Hartmann's Science Center.
Teitur Hartmann was born in Tungumúli in Rauðasandshreppur. His parents were Jón Bjarnason and Þórdís Teitsdóttir. He moved with them to Patreksfjörður when he was young and grew up there for the most part. In his early twenties he moved to Ísafjörður and began working as a pharmacist, first with a doctor and later with a chemist. From 1912 to 1916 he lived in America, but upon his return he worked at Reykjavíkur Apoteki and Laugavegur Apoteki. In the spring of 1926 he moved east of the fjord and lived first in Eskifjörður and then in Norðfjörður, working there both in pharmacy and house painting. In 1925 he married Guðrún Guðfinnsdóttir, a nurse in Eskifjörður. In 1942 the couple moved to Ísafjörður and Teitur worked there at Ísafjörður Apoteki for the rest of his life. Hartmann did not receive much formal schooling, but he did become well-versed in various fields, for example in languages and natural sciences. He was also a skilled chess player. He was quite weak for wine, and several of his best-known verses are related to his acquaintance with Bacchus. In 1951, his widow Guðrún published Vísnakver Hartmanns.
