Þorgeir Sveinbjarnarson, who was from Efstabæ in Skorradalur, was born on August 14, 1905 and died on February 19, 1971. He emerged as a poet early on, but did not publish his first book until 1955. He otherwise had a successful career as a physical education teacher and leader within the sports movement, following studies as a physical education teacher in Iceland, Sweden and Denmark. He began his career as a physical education teacher in Laugar in Þingeyjarsýsla, then became the managing director of the Icelandic Sports Association and ended his career as the director of Sundhall Reykjavík.
Þorgeir's first book of poetry was Vísur Bergþóru, but he went on to publish three books of poetry in total. In 1965, the Icelandic Cultural Fund published Vísur um drauminn, and the Icelandic Public Library published Vísur järðardinnar in 1971. By then, he had become a nationally renowned poet.
