Poems about lakes by Matthías Jóhannessen. Illustrated by Áslaug Sverrisdóttir.
Hafralón River
Everything here is blooming with berries.
where the rock is bare and bare.
I looked down into the river.
and nothing more beautiful than her
wanted to lure me to him and take me
my ready-made soul on a stick.
I didn't let her lead me.
my life into a hammer to itself
but shook it off me and looked
over the white-blue Þistilfjörður
where the clear blue sky bounces
sunbathing on the sea.
Then we continued along the river.
and all the way up to Stapi and Thrael.
And everything there is covered in cables
and there are cracked ravines.
Who wouldn't give their life?
for salmon from this hole?
But the evening was bright and quiet
A breeze passed through the heather and peat,
yet not a hair on my head moved
and the sea breeze died down on land.
I saw how the water was.
his winged ostrich up into the sand.
There is a rainbow in the world
who is friendlier than mine
and no one threatens their peace
except a worm, a fly and a stick –
but eternity is still nowhere
infinitely long.
