Spring Dreams. Poem by firefighter Kjartan Ólafsson.
Kjartan Ólafsson was born in Húsafell in Borgarfjörður in 1895, he died in Reykjavík in 1971. He grew up in Torfustaðir in Akranes with his father Ólafur Hannesson and his foster mother Guðrún Stefánsdóttir, who became Kjartan's mother. Kjartan moved to Reykjavík in 1913 and has lived there ever since. In May 1917 he married Ingibjörg Jónsdóttir and they built a house at Baldursgata 22 and have lived there ever since. In his first years in Reykjavík, Kjartan worked most of the jobs that were available, but in 1921 he was hired as a fireman at the Reykjavík Fire Department, working there continuously until he retired due to old age in 1964. In total, Kjartan worked for the Fire Department for 44 years. Kjartan was successful in his job and was warden there for a total of 22 years.
