At the end of the Continuation War between Finland and the Soviet Union (1941-1944), the Finns were ordered to return to Russia all the Ingrians who had arrived in the country. The Ingrians were a Finnish-speaking ethnic group living in Russia, many of whom had fled Stalin's tyranny and many of whom fought in the Finnish army against the Soviets. However, not all Ingrians believed that they would be welcomed with open arms in Russia and tried in various ways to reach other countries, including Sweden, with the help of Finnish fishermen. Over the sea and into the rock is their story. (Bókatíðindi 2009).
