Jóannes Patursson was born in Kirkjubø in 1866, and grew up there. He went to real school in Havn and later went to Norway for an agricultural school. In 1891 he took a zoology program, and the following year he established Kirkjubøgarð.
Jóannes Patursson is perhaps the most famous politician, but he was also a writer. He wrote a lot of political articles and wrote a lot of essays. In addition to political writings, he wrote writings for the motherland, for catering and more personal writings. He had a great love for the Faroese cause and will be satisfied with some bold and experienced reformers.
